Petrovac belongs to Budva municipality but is a separate coastal settlement with its own centre and beach. It suits a stay organised around one bay and a walkable daily routine rather than repeated returns to central Budva. Start by separating the town beach from neighbouring Lučice and Buljarica.

The shape of the town

The town opens towards its beach and promenade, making the waterfront an easy orientation line. Accommodation behind that line can rise into the hillside, so the visual closeness of the sea does not describe the final walk home. For a first visit, explore the central bay before choosing a longer excursion.

The town beach and its setting

The official tourism description highlights the reddish appearance of the beach material and its relationship with the houses and promenade behind it. This is an urban beach setting where a meal, rest and short walk can fit the same afternoon. It is not an isolated cove, and the practical experience changes with summer demand.

Lučice is a separate choice

Lučice lies south of the town and offers another small-bay setting associated with pine and cypress surroundings. It can make a simple change of scene without building a whole day around road transfers. Decide whether to move or remain on one beach based on your companions and the actual route, rather than treating multiple swims as an obligatory checklist.

Buljarica and the wider coast

Buljarica is the broader beach-area alternative farther along the coast. The difference in scale matters: a small bay and a longer open beach produce different walking, shade and accommodation choices. Allow a separate block of time if you want to explore beyond the immediate Petrovac centre. A municipal label does not mean every beach is outside your door.

Getting here without a car

Budva’s official local transport page lists a Budva–Petrovac route serving the riviera. That makes a road-based public-transport arrival possible, but the final stop and your accommodation are separate planning points. Petrovac has no railway station. For an arrival via Bar or Sutomore rail services, the remaining road transfer is part of the journey.

Where to stay

A central waterfront base suits travellers prioritising a short route to the town beach and evening walk. A hillside apartment may offer more open views but adds a climb. For families, compare the entrance, stroller route and sleeping arrangement rather than simply filtering for “family friendly.” For a longer stay, identify the shops and services that support your ordinary week outside holiday mode.

One day — editorial itinerary

Walk the promenade and town centre in the morning, leave a proper lunch break, then spend the afternoon at either the town beach or Lučice. Add a second beach on another day instead of moving everything several times. If using Petrovac as a base, reserve a different day for Budva’s old town or a Sveti Stefan viewpoint excursion.

Season and a quieter pace

Petrovac’s compact layout remains useful outside the busiest swimming period, but the scale of food, beach and excursion services changes seasonally. A walking-and-resting visit needs fewer services than a full beach holiday. Choose the date around your actual activity rather than assuming that an attractive coastline guarantees the same experience in every month.
